Temple of the Israelites of Florence

Near the Hotel Arizona is the Synagogue of Florence or the Largest Israeli Temple, its copper green dome is a famous spot on the city skyline. Built in 1874 on the basis of Marco Treves' projects, assisted by architects Mariano Falcini and Vincenzo Micheli, it cost over one million lire at that time.

History Of Ancient Jewish Community Of Florence

It is the meeting point of the Israeli community of Florence, which, although not very large (about two thousand people), is very old, probably dating back to Roman times. In the large garden in front of the vaguely oriental character in a large tombstone, the names of the 248 Jews resident in Florence and killed by the Nazis. A similar plaque is also displayed at the Santa Maria Novella Station on the track from which the train of Jewish prisoners departed toward the concentration camps.
